March – September 2000
Intro
Well, this is a little boring, honestly. But only because it’s book-ended by last year’s crazy trip through 19 countries, and next year’s crazy trip through 19 countries… so this ‘break’ year was warranted.
But of course, I still had to go somewhere! This ‘journey’ actually consists of six mini-trips taken throughout the year. (If I’m not getting off the continent, then I’m gonna see as much of it as I can!) Three trips were long weekends south to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, and a dip
into Baja California — where we indulged in some (too much) tequila, Tecate and tacos in Tijuana (yes, I just did that). One was a spontaneous all-night road trip north to Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, and Victoria. One was in the middle of the country, checking out Memphis’ Graceland, St. Louis’ awesome Gateway Arch, and the history-making Central High School in Little Rock.
The most memorable, however, was a two-week vacation to the east, taking in New York City for the first time – where I had the fortunate chance to see the view from the top of the iconic World Trade Center. I also visited family in Boston, saw historic mansions in Newport, played Atlantic City’s slots, wandered around Yale’s ivy league campus in New Haven, and… of course, after seeing Independence Hall, had a mouth-watering cheesesteak in Philly!
