July – August 1994
Intro
My first (and last?) trip ever with my sis. Not that we hate each other or anything like that! She just isn’t a huge fan of traveling (I know, right? How are we even related?!).
My aunt moved to London from Amman in 1991, and after numerous invitations to visit, we finally made the journey over the Atlantic to the UK. Being my first time in London, I was a little confused by the cloudy and foggy summer weather – but over the course of the next couple weeks,
London grew on me.
With two full weeks in London, staying conveniently close to Harrod’s at my aunt’s charming flat in Knightsbridge, there was plenty of time to get to know the city. But, with my budding travel addiction, we all know I couldn’t stay in just one city for that long – I had to see more! I planned short trips for us to see Windsor Castle, the elegant Victorian town of Bath, the magnificent cathedral of Salisbury, and of course, one of the most iconic sights in the United Kingdom — Stonehenge.
It would take 2 more visits to London (1999 and 2005) for me to fully appreciate its awesome-ness; I can say that it wasn’t love at first sight, for sure. But now, it’s one of my absolute favorite cities, and with 6 visits to date, is only second to Amman, Jordan (10 visits) as my most-visited major city on the planet!
