Mbaïki, Central African Republic 📍 - decided to take an even more `off-the-beaten-path` day trip 2 hours south of bangui to #mbaïki, capital of the prefecture of lobaye, to see the gorgeous red-brick cathédrale st. jeanne d`arc, which was founded by french catholic missionaries in 1925 🇨🇫
Brazzaville, Congo 📍 - statue of pierre savorgnan de brazza, with his grand #mausoleum and memorial in the background. an italian-born french explorer, he is famed for opening the #congo to french colonial rule without war or violence. it is certainly peculiar and has been controversial for a post-colonial power to recognize a `colonizer` in this way, but de brazza is revered for his pacifist ways and his humanitarian efforts against slavery and the abuse of african workers - so much so, that at independence, the colonial name for the city (obviously named after de brazza) was left unchanged! 🇨🇬
The Heart of Africa! 🌍 - and I`m off to #africa again! this time to #centralafrica, with visits to #angola, #cabinda, republic of #congo, the #drc, #rwanda, #uganda, #centralafricanrepublic, #equatorialguinea, #gabon, and the `chocolate islands` 🍫 of #saotome and principe! 🌴 one highlight will be gorilla trekking 🦍 in d.r. congo and rwanda! follow me on my new #adventure through some of the most beautiful and least traveled countries in the world! 😉🛫
