Mbaïki, Central African Republic 📍 - decided to take an even more `off-the-beaten-path` day trip 2 hours south of bangui to #mbaïki, capital of the prefecture of lobaye, to see the gorgeous red-brick cathédrale st. jeanne d`arc, which was founded by french catholic missionaries in 1925 🇨🇫
Berengo, Central African Republic 📍 - also south of bangui lies the former palace of the self-declared #emperor of the central african empire, jean-bédel bokassa - also known as "emperor #bokassa I of central africa". he spent $20 million USD on his `coronation` (a third of the country`s annual income), and though invited, no foreign leaders attended. the empire lasted less than 3 years, from sep. 1976 to dec. 1979, when he was ousted from power, his palace was destroyed, and the republic was restored. i accidentally came across a 100 franc piece which is from the period, with the words "empire centrafricain" on the face! 🇨🇫
The Heart of Africa! 🌍 - and I`m off to #africa again! this time to #centralafrica, with visits to #angola, #cabinda, republic of #congo, the #drc, #rwanda, #uganda, #centralafricanrepublic, #equatorialguinea, #gabon, and the `chocolate islands` 🍫 of #saotome and principe! 🌴 one highlight will be gorilla trekking 🦍 in d.r. congo and rwanda! follow me on my new #adventure through some of the most beautiful and least traveled countries in the world! 😉🛫
Boali, Central African Republic 📍 - a #rainbow over the chutes de #boali, a spectacular #waterfall about an hour and a half north of bangui. located on the m`bari river, the falls are 50m high and 250m wide, and aside from the local boys who will swarm you to be your guide, you`ll likely be the only one there to enjoy them! 👍🇨🇫
