Intro
Originally planned as a simple island-hopping trip in the Mediterranean — this journey morphed into something much bigger! With the islands still the anchor, I planned it to coincide with my cousin’s wedding in Jordan at the beginning, and the 2012 London Games at the end! I even tacked on a few other mini-trips along the way like a dip into Africa, a road-trip through southern France and Spain, and even a day-trip to
Cologne during a Frankfurt layover!
That’s 3 continents and 16 countries in one trip! And thanks to connecting flights, I soon realized that I was also managing to hit all the most famous ancient cities in one trip — Athens, Constantinople (Istanbul).. (or Constantinople?), Rome, and Carthage! Noticing all of a sudden that every other city I was planning to visit was also part of the Roman Empire at some point, I gave this epic journey its name!
After my cousin’s beautiful wedding in Amman, it was time to start the island-hoppin’! On the itinerary: Cyprus, Crete, Santorini, amazing Sicily (where I almost wish I could have spent all three weeks!), Malta, Sardinia, Corsica, Mallorca, and finally, Ibiza — where I enjoyed the world-famous beaches during the day and the even more world-famous DJs at night!
