Intro
After realizing I had only done a cruise this year, I was getting antsy and needed a real vacation, like one with hotels… and cities and restaurants and nightlife. So, I decided on a “city break”, spending a week in five of Europe’s greatest capitals – in winter.
Have you ever walked through the streets of Paris in the snow? You should. Been to Berlin during its wonderfully festive Christmas market? Spectacular. Enjoyed a steaming hot coffee on a cold morning at a canalside café in Amsterdam? Magical. Seen the sights of London’s
centre through a small opening under your unfurled umbrella… (hmm, yeah, most likely). Got snowed in and stranded in Brussels, missed your flight, along with several important meetings (stupidly) scheduled at work the next day? Yeah, that happened too. Oops.
Needless to say, it was a fun-filled, cold, exciting, snowy, Christmas-y, rainy, trip – and I loved every minute of it. Honestly, winter-time in Europe is a sight to behold. And another plus – fewer tourists mean you often have the festively-lit and decorated (though sometimes wet) sights all to yourself!
