Luanda, Angola 📍 - the elegant palacio de ferro has an interesting and mysterious history - no record of the building actually exists, and it is believed to have been designed and pre-built in france by gustav #eiffel🗼or one of his associates!  it was shipped from france to madagascar, where it was to be placed, but strong currents forced its path to the coast of #angola, where the portuguese took control of the ship, and erected the palace in #luanda instead. it was used as an art center under portuguese rule, fell into neglect during the angolan civil war, and was recently renovated to make way for a new diamond museum 💎 🇦🇴 ...

Bobangui, Central African Republic 📍 - i met the mayor of #bobangui, and asked for his permission to visit the interesting #memorial and #mausoleum of one of bobangui`s most famous sons, barthélemy #boganda, the founding father and first prime minister of the CAR.  coincidentally, other famous natives of this small town include david dacko, the first president of the CAR, and jean-bédel bokassa, the country`s first (and only) emperor! (see earlier post for a statue and description of him!) 🇨🇫 ...

Kampala, Uganda 📍 - walking up to st. paul`s #cathedral perched at the top of #namirembe hill - several of #kampala`s many hills are crowned by monumental, usually religious structures, each with amazing views of the city!  this one is the headquarters of the anglican #church of #uganda, and was built in 1919 ⛪ 🇺🇬 ...
